BPCM - Business Process and Case Management

Short description

Business Processes are key capabilities in organizations to add values to society and their surrounding ecosystem. Thus, they are considered a competitive advantage by companies and organizations. They can be very rigid like the production process in a factory or very flexible like the healthcare process in a hospital. The rigid process is known as work-flow based process while a flexible process is known as case management process or knowledge-intensive processes. These processes can be very complex and challenging to manage which requires IT systems to support them. However, they shall be flexible enough that organizations can respond to changes in their environment, which makes their support very challenging.

This course is about information systems that support designing, analyzing, implementing, executing, and adjusting business processes. It enables students to distinguish between work-flow based and case management processes, chose the right technique to model them. It also makes student familiarize with how different information systems can be used to support these processes in practice.

After the course the student should be able to:

Students will learn about several business process and case management modeling languages in this course including two industrial leading languages, i.e. BPMN and CMMN which are standardized by the Object Management Group (OMG).
