= BPCM - Business Process and Case Management = == Requirements == 60 hp computer and systems sciences (or equivalent) == Short description == Business Processes are key capabilities in organizations to add values to society and their surrounding ecosystem. Thus, they are considered a competitive advantage by companies and organizations. They can be very rigid like the production process in a factory or very flexible like the healthcare process in a hospital. The rigid process is known as work-flow based process while a flexible process is known as case management process or knowledge-intensive processes. These processes can be very complex and challenging to manage which requires IT systems to support them. However, they shall be flexible enough that organizations can respond to changes in their environment, which makes their support very challenging. This course is about information systems that support designing, analyzing, implementing, executing, and adjusting business processes. It enables students to distinguish between work-flow based and case management processes, chose the right technique to model them. It also makes student familiarize with how different information systems can be used to support these processes in practice. == Aim == After the course the student should be able to: * Identify business processes, their tasks, and constraints from a case description that contains the informal requirements for business processes for an organization * Identify whether a workflow-based system or a case management system supports a business process better * Identify the pros and cons of each modeling language to model a business process * Design and Develop an executable model to support a business process for both workflow-based and case management processes. * Describe discovered models that are identified using process mining techniques. Students will learn about several business process and case management modeling languages in this course including two industrial leading languages, i.e. BPMN and CMMN which are standardized by the Object Management Group (OMG). == Outline == The outline of the course is based on several modules that shall be followed in sequential order: * Module 1. Foundation * Module 2: Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) Basics * Module 3. Dynamic Condition Response (DCR) * Module 4. Case Management Model and Notation (CMMN) * Module 5. Process Mining * Module 6. Evaluating Process Modeling Languages The course is given as a distance course. The course is given in English.
