IB285C - eSociety - Evolution or Revolution
Aim
This course will provide an overview of the eSociety and train participants to analyse its particular opportunities and problems The course will also encourage participants to move on to in-depth studies in one or more of the specialised areas introduced.
After completing the course, participants should be able to:
- briefly describe the state of the art in the areas addressed during the course, such as
- new business models in the information economy
- restructuring in the media industry
- social media
- eGovernment: citizen participation and e-services
- new models and tools for decision analysis
- knowledge society: reforming education and research
- give an overview of the opportunities and challenges, different approaches and positions expressed by participants in the public debate surrounding the e-society
- participate themselves in the public debate on eSociety offering factually substantiated arguments
Syllabus
This course provides an overview of the eSociety and its various opportunities and challenges, and trains participants to analyse them. A number of topical areas addressed, such as
- new business models in the information economy
- restructuring in the media industry
- social media
- eGovernment: citizen participation and e-services
- new models and tools for decision analysis
- knowledge society: reforming education and research
Outline
Introductory lectures will be given by the course leader and a number of guest lecturers: researchers and specialists in various areas relevant to the eSociety. The course is taught in English, as is given as a distance course. All lectures are videotaped and posted online along with other course material.
