Requirements

60 hp computer and systems sciences (or equivalent)

Key concepts in handling large amounts of data, such as structured data, semi-structured data, unstructured data (collectively, the term multi-structured data), streaming data, and Internet of Things
Key concepts in open data
Key concepts in Data Management and Data Governance in an organization
Overview of methods, models and IT techniques to manage and analyze multi-structured data, such as data mining, machine learning, language technology, predictive analysis, Hadoop, etc.
Methods to develop a data-driven (evidence-based) public organization
Analysis of the organizational benefits and social benefits of big data and open data
Ethical aspects of big data and open data
Risks for identification of individuals using big data and methods for de-identification and secure storage of large data

After the course the student should be able to:

Explain the central concepts of big data and open data, and methods, models and techniques to process and analyze such data
Explain the central concepts in the management and control of data (data management and data governance)
Explain how public organizations can improve citizen interaction, decision-making and business processes using data management, big data and open data
Summarize and analyze a topic in the areas of management and control of data, big data, and / or open data based on scientific research, and apply the substance of the concept of a planned or existing public organization (by writing an essay)
Analyze the impact of solutions based on big data and open data, taking into account organizational, ethical and societal aspects
